February 29th

A LEAP OF FAITH

I titled this post “A Leap of Faith” because I’m writing it on February 29th and because I’m putting my faith in you, my readers. I hope you all will give me the benefit of the doubt and take the time to read this blog post. I hope you all will give me a chance to tell my side of the story. Mostly, I’m putting my faith in the friendships we’ve built on this blog over the years.

It all began more than three years ago when I got fired from my retail job by the manager I was dating at the time. If you go back and read the first eight posts I wrote on this blog, you’ll notice I detailed the many dates and eventual breakup between me and a man I named Drake. The truth is his real name wasn’t quite so sleek, and at the time I wrote that first blog post about our magical first date, “Drake” and I had already broken up.

You see, every date and every breakup I’ve written about on this blog has been written in hindsight. And every magical moment of human connection and post-coital glow was manufactured for you, the readers. Until I met a man who stood for everything I despised, and I actually began to fall.

I fell for Rick Hart.

I fell for his power and his passion for politics. I fell for his polished suits. I fell for the money he spent so freely on me. I fell for the dirty and sweet things he whispered in my ear while buried deep inside me. And even though I pretended to be immune to flattery, I fell a little harder for him each time he told me I was “so fucking beautiful.”

The truth is that Rick Hart broke my heart. The truth is I didn’t know he was married until he broke the news to me by introducing me to his wife…right after firing me. The truth is that, after cheating on his wife and giving me gonorrhea, Rick then threatened to expose my true identity to you, my readers, if I didn’t take down the post I wrote about him. The post where I concealed his true identity.

For those who are just catching up with all this drama, my name is not “Amber F.” I am Laney Hill. Actually, my full name is Delaney Vanessa Hill, and I’m here to ask for your forgiveness for not being upfront with you about my identity or the true timeline of events for the things I’ve written about on this blog. I completely understand if you don’t ever want to read another post written by the real me. I’ll understand if you think I got what I deserved. I thank you for sticking with me as long as you did. And I’m truly sorry I let you down.

For those who are willing to allow me a chance to clear the air, to turn this website into something better, thank you for believing in me at a time when it’s difficult for me to believe in myself.
